Supervision of Master’s Degree and Diploma Theses

Researchers of the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics often supervise master’s and diploma theses dealing with their fields of research and work. Here is a brief overview of the Institute’s departments and research groups in which a relevant thesis may currently be undertaken. If you are interested in pursuing your project with us or have any questions, please contact the respective program assistants directly.

Department of Music (Musical Development Group)

Theses undertaken in this group (headed by Dr. Franziska Degé) within the Department of Music will deal with early childhood psychology, musical development, and the development of aesthetic behaviors more generally. For more information, please visit the group’s web page.

An important prerequisite is that candidates have excellent programming skills in Python. It is also beneficial to have experience with the following:

  • Python web development (e.g., Flask),
  • front-end web development (e.g., HTML/CSS/JavaScript/jQuery/Bootstrap),
  • deep learning frameworks (such as PyTorch or TensoFlow).
