Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics plans to move to Bockenheim’s future Kulturcampus

Frankfurt - From 2023, the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics is planning to move into the building of the old Dondorf printing house in Bockenheim. The institute is currently housed in a rented building complex in Frankfurt's Westend district.
"We had been looking for our own building tailored to our research for some time. We immediately liked the old Dondorf printing house. The history and architecture of the industrial site are simply fascinating," explains Dr. Julia Intemann, construction coordinator at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics.
The institute conducts interdisciplinary research into what appeals aesthetically to whom, why and under what conditions. With this set of questions, the institute has become an integral part of the cultural life of the city of Frankfurt. Research concerts, scientific lectures and guided tours through the institute are offered on a regular basis to interested citizens.
The Institute's Directorate, Prof. Dr. Winfried Menninghaus (Department of Language and Literature), Prof. Dr. Melanie Wald-Fuhrmann (Department of Music) and Prof. Dr. David Poeppel (Department of Neuroscience), are looking forward to soon being part of the cultural campus: "This location is ideal for us. Since one focus of our research is on performing arts, there is the chance to network more closely with other cultural institutions ".
The old Dondorf printing house is not a listed building. The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics will nevertheless preserve the architecturally interesting building, restore it and complement it with suitable extensions. A planning competition is scheduled for summer 2018. At the beginning of October, a jury consisting of architects, representatives of the State of Hessen, the City of Frankfurt, the Max Planck Society and the Institute for Empirical Aesthetics will select the best concepts.
