Symposium on Mixed Emotions and Aesthetics
Research on mixed emotions has considerably gained momentum over the last ten years. Beyond theoretical and measurement-related questions, several studies have examined the effects of experiencing mixed emotions on health and well-being, often applying a longitudinal approach and yielding positive results. At the same time, several important questions—how mixed emotions can be explained by and integrated into theories of emotions, how mixed emotions can and should be measured, or how differences in experiencing mixed emotions relate to personal and cultural differences—are still intensely discussed. Furthermore, the relationship between mixed emotions and experiencing, enjoying and appreciating artworks and media products is also not well examined.
Focusing on this relationship, a symposium on Mixed Emotions and Aesthetics brings together leading scientists in the field of mixed emotions. The symposium takes place for two days at the Max-Planck-Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, on the 29 / 30 of June 2017
