Anke Karabanov l Giving the Brain a Hand: The Cortical Networks of Skilled Movement

Dr. Anke Karabanov, University of Copenhagen

Dr. Anke Karabanov, University of Copenhagen

Professor Anke Karabanov, University of Copenhagen, will give a talk on Thursday, September 21, 2023, 15:00 CEST in our Conference Room 416 - 419. The talk will also be available as a live webcast via Webex.

Abstract:

The talk will aim to give insight in the neural substrates at play during the generation of skilled movements. Specifically, Anke Karabanov will discuss how sensory and motor areas collaborate during the generation and acquisition of skilled movements, highlight hemispheric differences in the control of complex bimanual skills, and discuss sensory, motor, and cognitive contributions to motor skill learning in general.

About the Speaker:

Anke Karabanov is Associate Professor for Movement and Neuroscience at the University of Copenhagen, where she tries to convince both sport and neuroscience students that their fields are highly interlinked. Anke Karabanovs research explores how motor skill learning effects the reorganization of neural pathways and how physical activity and nutrition help to maintain brain plasticity throughout life. She is an expert on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS).
