Melanie Wald-Fuhrmann, Director of the Department of Music at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics (MPIEA) in Frankfurt am Main, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Association of Empirical Aesthetics (IAEA) for a four-year term:

"I am honored to join the Board,” says Wald-Fuhrmann. “The IAEA unites scholares from around the world who conduct scientific research on aesthetic experience and judgement, as well as artistic creativity—from music perception and visual arts to literature and dance. What fascinates me about this field is the combination of rigorous scientific methods with fundamental questions about human experience and cultural meaning.”

Wald-Fuhrmann particularly values the interdisciplinary scope of the organization, which brings together psychologists studying emotional reactions to music, neuroscientists exploring aesthetic judgment, philosophers analyzing concepts of beauty, and musicologists investigating intercultural perceptions.

"I look forward to contributing to the IAEA community and supporting its mission over the coming years, she adds.

Her engagement with the IAEA aligns closely with her research at the MPIEA. As Director of the Department of Music, Wald-Fuhrmann’s research interests include music aesthetics, musical taste, concert research, the sociology and anthropology of music, and the history of musicology.

About the IAEA
