Trash as an aesthetic concept

The notion of "trash" serves as a label to describe badly and cheaply made films (often deliberately so), which routinely combine graphic depictions of extreme violence with misogynistic representations of sex. The research project aims at identifying factors underlying the transformation of potentially negative responses to these films into a positive and even amusing aesthetic experience: distinctive features of the films, dimensions of affective responses and aesthetic appreciation, the role of expertise, practices of sharing experiences and communicating about the films, and personal preferences of trash film fans.
