HARMONIC DISSONANCE: INsync

Harmonic Dissonance: INsync, a collaboration between DIKKER + OOSTRIK and the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics , will be on view March 14 - April 4, 2019 at DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in conjunction with the BRAIN ON SCREEN series. 

Harmonic Dissonance: INsync is a participatory art installation and social neuroscience experiment. Groups of four visitors (friends, loved ones, strangers) are invited to explore their group social dynamics through an audiovisual reflection of their shared brain activity. Vivid and coherent audiovisual patterns emerge as a direct result of the extent to which the visitors' brainwaves, measured with EEG, are synchronized.

Harmonic Dissonance: INsync is a project of the art/science collective DIKKER + OOSTRIK . It continues their explorations into capturing the essence of human connectedness with artistic and neuroscientific tools, developed by a team of artists, scientists, and software developers. 

Matthias Oostrik is an artist working with digital technology and audiences. His work explores the impact digital technology has on our society and the influence it has on our relations to others. His work lies at the interface of computer art, installation art and film and makes use of experimental man-machine interaction. 

Suzanne Dikker’s work lies at the intersection of art, neuroscience, and education. Using a 'real-world' neuroscience approach, her work seeks to understand how the human brain supports dynamic social communication.
