Lecture by Faruk Gülban: A modern look on measuring the
human auditory pathway using in-vivo MRI at 7 and 9.4 Tesla
Understanding human audition requires precise measurements of all processing levels to build functional models. A major challenge to accomplish such measurements is having several components of the auditory system deep within the brainstem which is hard to reach. Here I will address this challenge by showing how to image the whole auditory system (structurally and functionally) at millimeter resolution using in-vivo MRI at 7T. In addition, I will demonstrate our most recent efforts to measure the auditory cortex at mesoscopic resolutions (0.1 to 0.5 mm) using in-vivo MRI at 9.4T with the purpose of expanding in-vivo human imaging territory towards the realm of post-mortem methods.
