Online Lecture Recital by Stefan Litwin

Online Lecture Recital by Stefan Litwin

Join the MPIEA – NYU Center for Language, Music and Emotion (CLaME) for a lecture-recital by renowned composer, pianist and professor of music Stefan Litwin.

New Music / New Listening

Stefan Litwin, piano

with special guest Nuria Schoenberg-Nono

music by Arnold Schoenberg and others

Arnold Schoenberg propelled music forward into unchartered territory, thereby demanding a new approach to listening. His revolutionary step into pantonality and the subsequent development of the twelve-tone method provided the foundation for generations of younger composers.

Stefan Litwin will trace these extraordinary developments and illustrate — in conversation with the composer’s daughter Nuria Schoenberg-Nono — some of the historical and personal background. In addition, the lecture-recital will focus on how Schoenberg changed our understanding of the standard repertoire and helped shape new forms of interpretation.

Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2020
Time: 12 p.m. EST / 6 p.m. GMT+2 (18:00 in Germany), duration app. 90 minutes
