Important message (updated April 22, 2020)

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics takes the rapid spread of the Coronavirus / COVID-19 very seriously. As a precautionary measure, we have decided to cancel all public events until further notice to protect the health of our employees, guests, study participants, and visitors. Currently, there are no public lectures and workshops. The library is also closed for external visitors until further notice.

Dear Study Participants,

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics (MPIEA) takes the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) very seriously. We have therefore adopted a series of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all guests and employees of the Institute. This applies to participants in the Institute’s ongoing studies as well.

Until further notice, there will be NO on-site studies involving research participants. This includes studies conducted at the MPIEA as well as studies conducted at the Brain Imaging Center (BIC).

Our online studies continue as before. We hope you will consider taking part in one of our Online Studies.

If you have questions, please contact us via email ( or by phone (069 8300 479 619).

All of these measures are purely precautionary. They are intended to help protect the Institute’s employees, guests, and other visitors, including study participants—i.e., you—and to keep all of us from being put at risk unnecessarily.

We will inform you immediately of any significant changes to the situation here at the Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics. We thank you for your understanding.

Best Wishes!

The Max Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics Team
