Workshop ‚Digital Modelling of Knowledge'

Historical research that makes use of network modelling and analysis is increasingly relevant. Matteo Valleriani and Florian Kräutli from the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science are giving a one-day-workshop on data modelling using CIDOC CRM and FRBRoo and they will present the front-end tool CorpusTracer basing on those standards. They use the tool for creating and querying the dataset they built up in the frame of their research project The Sphere. Knowledge System Evolution and the Shared Scientific Identity of Europe. Here, they investigate the knowledge tradition that is interwoven with the history of one text: the Tractatus De Sphaera by Johannes de Sacrobosco.
In the workshop we will discuss Matteo Vallerianis and Florian Kräutlis approach, compare their solution to our problems and think about adapting their concepts or using their tool which not only helps creating data: They designed it in a way that will also allow the general public to access and navigate the dataset – which ultimately also benefits expert users.
