Project: Cultural Foundations of Auditory Perception

The Max-Planck Institute for Empirical Aesthetics in Frankfurt, Germany, investigates the attentional, cognitive, and affective mechanisms of aesthetic perception and evaluation. The Institute is currently is searching for a full-time Lab Manager (f/m/d) for the Research Group of Nori Jacoby (Group Leader) working on the project Cultural Foundations of Auditory Perception to assist with behavioral experiments and data collection. The purpose of the experiments is to characterize listeners from a variety of cultural and geographical backgrounds.

The successful applicant holds a BSc. in a relevant discipline, e.g., computer science, psychology, or neuroscience and possesses the following skills and experience:

  1. Command of Matlab for experiment analysis and design.
  2. Extensive knowledge regarding statistics/experimental methods.
  3. Excellent spoken and written English and scientific writing skills.
  4. Fluent German (spoken, reading, and writing).
  5. Applicants with extensive programming experience are particularly encouraged to apply.

The position is especially suited for an applicant who would like to obtain experience and publications ahead of pursuing graduate studies in neuroscience or psychology. Candidates at other levels (MA / Phd / Postdoc) with similar skills and interests are welcome to contact the Jacoby Research Group as well, considering the information given below.

The position is for a period of two years and an extension is possible. Salaries are determined following the salary scale E 10 of the German TVÖD (Bund)*, depending on experience. The start date is negotiable.
